01 · The national plan
The tourism target was met early. So it was raised.
Saudi Arabia set out to reach 100 million tourist visits a year by 2030. The Kingdom crossed that line in 2023, and the Ministry of Tourism raised the national target to 150 million visits a year by 2030: 70 million of them from abroad. This is not a projection to debate; it is a national program with budgets, airports, and cities attached.
Jeddah is one of the plan’s front doors: the Kingdom’s Red Sea gateway, its second-largest city, and the natural base for coastal tourism.
02 · Umrah and Hajj
The world’s most consistent travel demand lands here first.
Jeddah is the gateway to Makkah. In 2024, nearly 17 million pilgrims from abroad performed Umrah, roughly double the 2022 figure (Vision 2030’s Pilgrim Experience Program). The Kingdom plans for 30 million a year by 2030.
Nearly every one of those journeys touches the ground in Jeddah: airport to hotel, hotel to the Haram road, families with luggage, arrivals at every hour of the night. It is demand that has no off-season.
03 · The airport
KAIA just set the record for any Saudi airport, and kept building.
More than 49 million passengers moved through King Abdulaziz International Airport in 2024, up 14% on the year before, and the highest annual figure a Saudi airport has ever recorded, per the General Authority of Civil Aviation.
The newest terminal alone was built for 30 million passengers a year, and reported expansion plans take the airport past 100 million. For anyone in transport, the reading is simple: the front door of the city keeps getting wider.
Everyone can see the demand. Certainty on the ground is still rare.
04 · The Red Sea stage
The Kingdom’s marquee events run along Jeddah’s waterfront.
Jeddah was Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea port long before it was anything else. Today it is also a stage: the Jeddah Corniche Circuit has hosted the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix since 2021 (the fastest street circuit in the championship, per Formula 1), and the Red Sea International Film Festival has brought world cinema to the historic district every December since 2021.
Event weeks compress a season of transport demand into days. Hotels fill, roads close along the Corniche, and a pre-arranged car with a confirmed price stops being a comfort and becomes the plan.
